| Thank you for visiting my site. I have included helpful information and links
concerning the wonderful Dalmatian and a bit about myself and my breeding
program.
"South Street"
is my kennel name - the name used to identify Dals of my breeding. I have
been exhibiting and breeding Dalmatians since 1989 although I have owned and
loved Dals since I was 10 years old. I consider my puppies to be "adoptions"
rather than "sales",
so if you contact me, expect to be asked questions about previous pets,
children, home environment, etc. If you pass my interview and decide to adopt
one of my puppies, you will in turn, have a lifetime of support from me.
My breeding program is conducted on a relatively small scale. I
do not have a kennel, preferring to have my dogs as house pets. In addition,
puppies develop far better when they receive the extra attention a house-raised
litter gets.. For that reason I keep a limited number of dogs, using only dogs
of outstandingly good quality and temperament. I am breeding for better
Dalmatians and am in this as a hobby, not as a money making activity.
Though I breed for show dogs, I am also very proud of my pets and performance
dogs. I often receive letters, photos and updates from their families over
their lifetime. Most Dals, including show dogs, live in homes with families and
good temperaments are essential. Soundness is of the utmost importance to
my breeding program, both physically and mentally. The care and attention
a puppy receives during the first 6 - 7 weeks of its life greatly affects it's
future health, temperament, and trainability. The dispositions and health of the
parents also make a great deal of difference. For that reason, it is not wise to
purchase a puppy from a pet shop or puppy mill - most of those puppies are from
questionable backgrounds and have been raised for profit - not with the idea of
their eventually becoming "family
members". One of the biggest
advantages of purchasing a purebred dog from a reputable breeder is knowing the
background of the animal.
My puppies are sold with their first shots, dewclaws removed, are worm free,
healthy and well adjusted. They are also BAER hearing tested, carefully observed
and are temperament tested to enable me to place the right dog in the right
home. My puppies are generally sold on
a reservation basis, so if you are interested in one of my puppies, I will
gladly supply you with information on upcoming litters.
Buying a dog is a decision that should be given a lot of thought. You
need to make sure that the Dalmatian is really the right breed for you. Although
they are a wonderful breed, they are not right for everyone's
lifestyle. No one breed of dog fits every lifestyle. Careful research and
thought should go into the purchase of any live animal to make sure it is right
for you. Are you ready to make a 12-14 year commitment?
If you do decide that the Dalmatian is the right breed, you should plan to
buy a healthy, properly socialized, vaccinated, well-bred puppy from a
responsible breeder. You should always receive a written contract, which should
include provisions for a health guarantee.

I do occasionally have an adult dog available for adoption - often a retired
show dog, or a dog I am no longer using for breeding. These dogs may be a great
option for those wanting a Dalmatian companion, but not in a situation to start
out with a young puppy. They are extremely well adjusted and usually
welcome the opportunity to have a family of their own. Whether
you decide on a new puppy or an older dog, my interest does not end with an
adoption and I am always available for answers and advice.
